Where Are They Now: The Rodriguez Brothers
Ricky Rodriguez is a DACA recipient, and after many struggles, he is finally living out his own American dream.
Last summer, during the heart of Immigrant Heritage Month, Road to Status partnered with Fwd.us to host its official launch party at Whisk, an award-winning restaurant in Chicago’s Ukrainian Village neighborhood. The Rodriguez brothers, Ricky and David, founded Whisk in 2014 and have since opened up their second successful restaurant, Son of a Butcher, with a third eatery scheduled to open in February 2017. The Rodriguez brothers are on an unstoppable team and they have their eyes on winning the hearts and stomachs of Chicago’s most discriminating foodies. Ricky is a DACA recipient, and after many struggles, he is finally living out his own personal American dream. DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival) is an executive order that was signed into policy by President Obama in 2012 calling for deferred deportation action for certain undocumented young people who were brought to the U.S. as children. DACA has helped more than 700,000 young undocumented immigrants gain legal work authorization. The successful but controversial program has come under fire with the recent administration change, and the future of DACA is unknown. The current program does not provide a pathway to citizenship.
Road to Status hosted their 2nd annual holiday party at Son of a Butcher and had the pleasure of sampling “sneak preview” items from their brand new winter menu. During the event, Ricky Rodriguez shared his insights on how they have overcome obstacles and created multiple successful businesses as immigrant entrepreneurs.

Being an immigrant, it is important to keep your goals and dreams top of mind. Not only do we make sure that we are constantly working towards achieving them, but we live by the mantra of ‘always be improving’”.
